Power Plant Workers Prepare for a Striking Turnover

More than half a thousand crew members at Dounreay power station are gearing up for a showdown this week after the Nuclear Restoration Services (NRS) slid a pay cut disguised as a one‑off £500 handout plus a 4.5% raise.

The Verdict: “Not a single thing!”

In a resounding vote that left the union’s members “overwhelmingly” shouting no, the crew rejected the offer, claiming it translates into a significant real‑terms salary dip. United delivers a fresh wave of strike plans:

  • First strike on Wednesday.
  • Ongoing overtime ban on Thursday.
  • Another walkout slated for May 29.

Union Voices the Punchline

Sharon Graham – general secretary – says, “The future of our members at Dounreay is hanging in the balance. The pay terms are a straight‑forward cut that we can’t stand.” She adds, “We will rally for fair wages, better jobs, and solid conditions—no compromise.”

Marc Jackson of Unite pitches, “Repeatedly we’ve told NRS: any offer that slays pay can’t be tolerated. Our growing membership is built by hard‑working stewards; it’s clear we’re heading toward extended industrial action. If negotiations stall, we’ll keep adding days.” He calls out, “Our members are determined to get the raise they deserve.”

Quarterly clerk Keir Greenaway (GMB Scotland) chuckles, “Our crew saw zero raise—just a real‑terms cut. Managers are flaunting civil service rules but appear to cherry‑pick the ones that fit them. They’re not shy when it comes to their own pay.”

Some Word from NRS

A spokesperson from NRS says, “We’re disappointed by today’s announcement but are still striving for a fair, affordable resolution. Our contingency plans are in place to keep the site safe and compliant during any industrial action.”
