GPG Secures Elite Spot on Sunday Times Profit Track 100

Global Procurement Group Lands a Spot in the Sunday Times BDO Profit Track 100

What a win! The Global Procurement Group (GPG), homes to the UK powerhouse Northern Gas & Power, has once again been named one of the fastest-growing firms in the Sunday Times BDO Profit Track 100 for 2021. This accolade is a testament to years of hard work, relentless growth, and a sprinkle of that GPG magic.

What’s the Big Picture?

The Profit Track 100 is the Sunday Times’ way of spotlighting the UK’s hottest profits—companies that are literally blowing up at a spectacular rate. For GPG to make the list signals that its tick‑tock of expansion, innovation, and customer delight is ticking at a remarkably fast pace.

How GPG Got Here

Started in 2013 by CEO Fokhrul Islam, GPG has grown from a lean startup to a robust energy consultancy with almost 800 employees today—growing to about a thousand by the end of 2021. That’s more than 10 times the workforce when it first opened its doors.

Here’s a quick snapshot of the headcount journey:

  • 2013 – 20 people
  • 2015 – 40
  • 2016 – 75
  • 2017 – 140
  • 2019 – ~550
  • 2021 – ~800 (target 1,000 by year‑end)

Expanding Headquarters, Expanding Horizons

The group’s rapid growth has demanded bigger living spaces. In the summer of 2021, GPG moved into a gorgeous, custom-built complex on the river front in Riga. Four floors totaling 30,000 sq. ft. now house the majority of its operations.

Meanwhile, Energies France—GPG’s French arm—has outgrown its previous offices so fast it’s had to book a brand-new HQ in Paris. The new location spans 5,400 sqm, a 4.5‑times jump from its former home. This move supports a surge in staff up to 500, aligning with the group’s future expansion plans.

Key Growth Drivers

Customer acquisition remains the heart of GPG’s expansion. Last year, the firm signed about 400 new clients a month; this year, that number has fizzled out to over 1,000—an astonishing jump fueled by the ClearVUE energy‑management platform. This tech wizard shows businesses how to save money and boost energy efficiency.

France’s success is another powerhouse driver—thanks to the same mix of stellar service, deep expertise, and tech support.

Why It Matters

With a portfolio of 29 TWh operating across 20,000 customers, GPG is a giant in the energy world. Consistent customer service, rigorous compliance, and industry‑leading knowledge keep it ahead of the pack.

“We’re thrilled to make the Profit Track again. It’s a big shout‑out to our hardworking team,” says a spokesperson from Northern Gas & Power. “Our growth in the mid‑market, coupled with our unique ClearVUE platform, is the engine that’s driving our success.”
