Ineos Invests £60m in UK, Expands Production at Grangemouth Site

INEOS Puts £60 million Behind a New Furnace at Grangemouth

Yesterday, INEOS revealed a bold plan to tick up its Grangemouth operations by injecting £60 million into the site. The money will fund an additional furnace for the KG ethylene plant, a collaboration with Germany’s Selas‑Linde GmbH.

The New Furnace Boom

  • Adding a tenth furnace will give the plant a much-needed efficiency lift.
  • Higher output means the company can keep up with the growing appetite for its ethylene products.
  • It’s a win for the local community and a boost for the wider UK manufacturing scene.

Why This Investment Matters

Within a country where many industrial regions are seeing a downturn, this move signals INEOS’s unwavering commitment to sustaining UK manufacturing. Chef‑style, the extra furnace will churn out more raw materials that power an entire spectrum of UK industry.

CEO John McNally Speaks

John McNally, CEO of INEOS O&P UK explains that the expansion is now possible thanks to long‑term access to U.S. shale gas ethane. The 2016 project that brought plentiful, cost‑effective ethane to Grangemouth has breathed new life into the plant.

He adds that the extra capacity opens up dozens of future opportunities—not just for INEOS, but for the heartlands of manufacturing in Scotland, the North East and the North West of England.

Celebrating 25 Years of Continuous Ethylene Production

It feels timely to announce this investment in the same year the KG plant hits its 25‑year milestone of uninterrupted ethylene production. INEOS has already invested over £500 million in its Scottish chemicals business in the last five years.

“This latest upgrade reaffirms our steadfast dedication to manufacturing at Grangemouth and our continued investment in the UK,” McNally says.
