Hyundai unveils hybrid car with a solar panel car roof

Hyundai has released a hybrid car that has solar panels to charge the car’s battery. If the roof was used for six hours a day this will generate 60% of power to the battery.

The Korean car maker said the solar panels will provide enough electric power to propel the Sonata hybrid for 800miles per annum.

Stephen Edelstein from the Digital Trends news site said, “Hybrids like the Sonata have smaller battery packs than all-electric cars, so a solar roof can make a bigger difference in charging.

“Solar cells add cost and weight to cars, and it’s unclear how effective they can be in the real world.”

The solar panelled car will be available only in North America and Korea, the car is expected to cost around €149,000 when the car goes on sale in 2021.
