Unlock Government Grants to Power Your Switch to Electric Vehicles

Unlock Government Grants to Power Your Switch to Electric Vehicles

UK Motorists Still Fearing the Road To Zero Emissions

Millions of Britons keep their keys in the old‑school petrol drawer, but the government’s eager to nudge them toward a greener future.

Why the Resistance is So Strong

  • Only 4.09% of all cars on UK roads are fully electric – less than 1.4 million vehicles.
  • A 90% snap‑poll revealed that most Brits feel the UK isn’t ready for EVs.
  • A full 79% of respondents think the 2035 ban on new petrol and diesel cars is premature.
  • Exactly 54% want the government to offer more funding to help EV adoption.

Secret Weapon: The Electric Vehicle Chargepoint Grant

Tiger.co.uk’s insurance gurus are pointing their ears at the Electric Vehicle Chargepoint Grant (EVCG). Launched in April 2022, it pays homeowners—landlords, flat‑owner occupiers, renters, and residential park owners—to install personal charging points.

So far, the grant has injected over £5 million into the UK, gifting more than 8,000 electrified sockets nationwide. London gets 1,610 of them; the South East gets 1,285.

Convinced? Time is ticking. The EVCG closes the line on March 31, 2025, so if you’re eligible, apply while you still can.

But Why Are Drivers Still on the Fence?

  • 48% would switch to EVs only if installing a charger was free.
  • Cost and the scary “where’s a charger if I crash?” factor loom large.

Ian Wilson’s Take

“Most folks are drawn to the dough when deciding on an electric car,” says Tiger.co.uk’s Managing Director, Ian Wilson. “The grants are the perfect shove to kickstart that switch.”

He insists there are also perks for those already behind the wheel of an EV, including more grants such as the LEVI fund and the Workplace Charging Scheme.

So whether you’re a landlord, a renter, a flat owner, or just a curious driver, there’s a good chance a grant will lower the cost of going green.

Ready to Leave Petrol Behind?

Don’t let the clock run out on the EVCG or miss other incentives. Consider your options, weigh the perks, and you might just be the next electric champion on your neighbourhood.
