TSB Slashes 250 Jobs and Shuts 36 Branches to Streamline Operations

TSB is Shutting Down 36 Branches and Cutting 250 Jobs

The bank says it will close a total of 36 branches and eliminate 250 jobs – a decision that cracks the very core of its operations, impacting fraud teams and the staff who work out in the world’s banking rooms.

When and Where?

  • Closures will begin in September, winding down gradually until May 2024.
  • Employees in the fraud department and all those stationed at branch sites will be the first to feel the pinch.

The Union’s Take

Unite has blasted the move as “a grave mistake.” Andy Case, the union’s regional officer, warned that the workers removed are “essential” for fraud detection and the day‑to‑day service at branches.

TSB’s Side of the Story

A TSB spokesperson noted that no branch closure is a decision made lightly. “Customers are now banking mostly online, so we’re shifting to a better balance between digital and face‑to‑face services,” he said. “We continue to offer a national branch network while adding video, telephone, and digital options, giving customers more ways to bank with us than ever before.”
