FTSE 100 Surges to All‑Time High — Investors in a Jolly Mood
Yesterday, the FTSE 100 shook off its winter coat and strutted into a brand‑new record, surpassing the 8,047.06 peak from February 2023. The blue‑chip index closed at a sparkling 8,023.87 on Monday.
Early Tuesday Movements
- Retail and finance stocks stole the spotlight – driving the FTSE up >1.6%.
- Only a handful of stocks slipped, but the overall vibe was upbeat.
Why the Upswing?
Geopolitical tensions seem to be taking a nap, and that +ve stance has investors feeling good.
Lindsay James, investment strategist at Quilter Investors, notes: “Even though other G7 economies are still scrambling to keep up, the UK is turning its hiccup into a win against inflation. Last month, UK inflation dipped below the US, and the Bank of England’s Andrew Bailey branded the data as proving the UK is ‘pretty much on track’ with forecasts.”
