Aldi Raises Pay Again, Claiming to Be the UK’s Best-Paying Supermarket
What’s Changing?
In a quick move over the weekend, Aldi has decided to bump hourly wages for some of its front‑line staff. Store assistants and deputy managers in the broad M25 corridor will see their pay climb from £12.00 to £12.40 per hour, effective from June.
Across the greater London area, a slightly higher salary means employees there get a lift from £13.55 to £13.65.
Why the Boost?
Aldi’s chief executive, Giles Hurley, says they’re done with paying like everyone else. “We firmly believe that our colleagues are the best in the business, so it is only right that they remain the best paid,” he told reporters. “We’re committed to never being beaten on pay by any other supermarket.”
Key Points
- Aldi has more than a thousand shops nationwide.
- The wage hike is part of a larger investment plan, bringing the total spend to roughly £79 million.
- “Our store operations colleagues play an integral part in our ever‑increasing popularity among shoppers and our continued investment in their pay is another way to thank them for the role they play in making Aldi what it is today,” added Hurley.
Bottom Line
Aldi’s latest wage push is a clear statement that they want to keep their team happy and motivated. Whether it’s truly the best-paying supermarket remains to be seen, but it’s a bold step that shows the company values its people as much as it values bargains.
