Body Shop Undergoes Administration, Thousands of Jobs at Risk

The Body Shop Gets a New Manager (And It’s Not the Party Favors)

Yesterday, the beloved cosmetics retailer that once championed fair‑trade soap and ethically sourced skincare slipped into administration. The firm has turned over the reins to a firm called FRP Advisory, a group of insolvency wizards whose job is to find a buyer or secure a fresh start.

What Happened?

On Monday, The Body Shop, which boasts over 200 UK stores and a global workforce of about ten thousand, filed for administration. While the company announced it would keep selling its favourite products in stores and online, that doesn’t mean the shop’s future is as clear as a clean splash of makeup.

The Role of the Administrators

  • Scan the market for potential buyers.
  • Keep creditors and employees in the loop.
  • Figure out the best way for the brand to survive.

This move comes just weeks after Aurelius – a European equity firm that specialises in reviving troubled companies – completed a £207 million takeover from Natura & Co (the Brazilian parent). That deal, signed in November, gave Aurelius control of the UK firm at the start of 2024.

Why It Matters for Workers

Running a store takes more than a rolling pinch of lipstick; it’s a whole team effort. With the administration process underway, thousands of jobs—across the UK and overseas—could be in jeopardy. The administrators have promised to explore all options, but for many people, the clock is ticking.

What the “New Management” Says

According to the admins’ own words: “We will assess all options to steer the business toward a positive outcome, keeping creditors and staff updated along the way.”
And, reassuring shoppers: “Customers will still be able to buy their favourite Body Shop products in‑store and online.”

The Future Outlook

Administrators believe this phase will add “stability, flexibility and security” to re‑ignite the iconic brand. While the company has had a tough run under previous ownership and the wider retail environment has been a roller‑coaster, they’re hopeful a fresh strategy can bring the Body Shop back into the spotlight.
