Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty in Practice

People suffering from obesity problems might be satisfied with an ESG treatment. But before going this road any further, gaining a bit more knowledge seems like a good idea. In this article, we will explain how an endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty works. We will also clear up some confusion regarding similar VSG procedures.

Differences between ESG and VSG

VSG (Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy) is a surgical procedure. ESG is not. The latter doesn’t involve cuts and scarring. It doesn’t end with a spill of blood. The VSG, on the other hand, results in a part of the stomach being physically removed from the body. It is therefore a significant intervention that can’t be reversed. It is not possible to attach cut-off tissue back to the stomach. The endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty, on the other hand, has the potential to be reversed. That’s because ESG procedures don’t eliminate body fragments. They simply make them smaller. We would also like to point out that this medical treatment should not be confused with a gastric balloon.
