Russian president Vladimir Putin is one of the most feared figures of the world but did you know he’s also one of the richest people on the planet?
On paper, he draws a salary of $140,000 a year and claims ownership of a mere 800 square feet apartment. But on close inspection just Putin’s watch collection is reportedly six times his officially declared annual salary.
So just how rich is Russian premier Vladimir Putin? Take a look:
Net wealth: $200bn
Putin’s property empire combined with revenue from his various secret investments is known to be more than $200bn which puts him in the league of the likes of Facebook billionaire Mark Zuckerberg and Amazon boss Jeff Bezos.
Palatial home which costs $2m a year to maintain
Officially, he just has a modest sized flat to his name. But according to various media reports, Putin lives in a Black Sea mansion where just the dining room furniture is worth half a million dollars and its bar table costs $54,000. His not so humble abode is based on a cliff and comes complete with a marble swimming pool with Greek gods statues, an amphitheater, a state-of-the-art ice hockey rink, a Vegas-style casino, and even a nightclub.
Even the toilet brushes in Putin’s bathrooms cost $850 each and his toilet paper holders cost $1,250. A 40-person staff looks after his palatial home which sets him back a whopping $2m every year.
What’s more? The house we describe above is just one of 19 homes Putin owns.
Helicopters and luxury vehicles
Putin owns 700 cars and 58 aircraft and helicopters but there are two vehicles he owns that denote uber luxury.
He owns a $716m plane that is nicknamed “The Flying Kremlin” and has bought a mega yacht named Scheherazade that set him back a jaw-dropping $700m.
Watch collection
Putin’s watch collection is roughly six times the cost of Sir Keir Starmer’s salary as the Prime Minister of the UK. Putin owns a Patek Philippe Perpetual Calendar valued at $60,000 and a $500,000 A. Lange & Sohne Tourbograph among other expensive watches
