London EdTech Startup Raises $500K Through Crowd Funding

Tech Will Save Us Breaks the $500 M Target on Seedrs

In a £500 m haul—more than twice its goal—Tech Will Save Us (TWSS) has won the hearts (and wallets) of over 200 backers on the UK crowdfunding platform Seedrs. The EdTech powerhouse, already helping 1.2 million kids tinker and create, snagged commitments as high as £145,000 from individual investors.

What the Company Actually Does

TWSS delivers a play‑led home‑learning system that nurtures creativity while lighting a spark for STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Maths). Their mix of goodies includes:

  • A digital platform that oozes hours of video content, interactive manuals, projects and coding challenges.
  • Physical kits & games—think Electro Dough for beginners and the slick Arcade Coder for budding developers, all perfectly synced with the online hub.
  • A subscription service that guarantees lifelong learning and value.

Covid‑19 Shifted the Game

With the pandemic knocking on everyone’s door, TWSS pivoted to digital sales in 2020. That savvy move paid off big time: after lockdown, digital channel sales rocked a 110% lift. Online, they’ve built a community of hundreds of thousands, publishing playful content and freebies—like the free e‑book “Supercharge Learning & Playing at Home.”

“Education has forever been changed by the lockdown; digital tech is now the backbone of schools worldwide. Parents are more involved than ever, closing the gaps in children’s learning,” says Bethany Koby, Cofounder and CEO. “The response to our Seedrs campaign is humbling. Now we’re speeding up home‑learning clubs and subscriptions to keep kids engaged, entertained and inspired.”

New Launch: Games Designer Club

Last week, TWSS rolled out a free online hub—Games Designer Club. It’s a playground for projects, activities and resources themed around inventing and building games, designed to compliment home‑schooling. The club teaches design, coding, creativity, problem‑solving, critical thinking and collaboration, all while being a ton of fun.

From Kitchen Table to Global Reach

Founded in 2012 by husband and wife duo Bethany Koby & Daniel Hirschmann, the company began by packing DIY kits at home. Today, customers span 97 countries. The venture is backed by BrightEye Ventures (EdTech focus) and Initial Capital, early backer of Supercell.

“We were torn between the stigma of screen time and the need to equip kids for future‑proof skills,” Bethany says. “Hence our mission: empower children to be digital creators, not consumers.” That drive has led to award wins, collaborations with Google, Code Club, the Prince’s Trust, BBC, and even a micro:bit pocket computer shipped to a million kids worldwide. They also partnered with Disney to produce a custom STEAM toy for Marvel’s The Avengers.
