Trump’s Tariff Showoff
Yesterday, President Donald Trump took to a Republican rally in Washington to brag that nations around the globe are literally “calling him a superstar” just to get the tariffs off the table.
“I’m the Hot‑Spot”
He told the crowd, “These countries are ringing me up, kissing my butt…and they’re dying to strike a deal.” He added, “They’re begging, ‘Please, please, sir, drop those tariffs. I’ll do anything.’”
Later, to the press secretary, Trump said, “I know exactly what I’m doing…Everyone else was scared. Nobody else wanted to stand up and say, ‘I’ll do this’.”
Phone‑Banging Across the Globe
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed that roughly 70 nations have called Washington for talks. “The phones have been ringing off the hook,” she said.
Who’s Feeling the Pain?
Dozens of countries are feeling the heat from US tariffs:
- China – 104% on imports
- Vietnam – 46%
- Thailand – 36%
- Japan – 24%
- European Union – 20%
- United Kingdom – 25% on automotive imports and 10% on general goods
While the President flattered himself a bit, the world’s markets are still reeling from the sudden increase in trade friction.
