2024 Travelers are Packing More Kilometers – and a Healthy Dose of Fears

Multitrip.com recently ran a travel survey that gives us the wildest snapshot of holiday plans for 2024. Ready to see how many of us are really planning to hop on planes this year?

Key Take‑aways at a Glance

45.6% of surveyed holidaymakers are booking at least three trips in 2024.
Just 6.8% are amping it up to five or more.
Nearly 60% say the cost‑of‑living crisis is gonna shake their travel plans.
Only 24% are still worried about airport chaos – a dip from 40% last year.
9 out of 10 (91.7%) plan on buying travel insurance – no change, just consistent peace‑of‑mind.

How the Travel Numbers Shifted

Last year, 59.1% of folks had taken three or more holidays in 2023. This year, that drops to 45.6%, which is a 13.5% decrease overall.

While 41.5% of respondents are planning fewer holidays, the peak summer rush (July & August) is down by almost 3%. On the flip side, those planning to travel in May or June are up a solid 4.4%.

And don’t be surprised – 16.8% say they’re going to spend less on travel in 2024 versus 2023.

One‑Sick Roaring into the Climate Zone

Almost one in ten (26%) are making the climate crisis a factor in their booking decisions. A smaller slice – 6% – will stay close to home, while 1.2% are outright skipping holidays.

The Insurance Edge

Jason Whelan from Multitrip.com notes that despite rising costs, most travelers still see insurance as a killer necessity:

“Travel remains a top priority even as costs climb. Over 90% of people understand the value of travel insurance to protect them abroad,” says Whelan.
