In a deeply moving statement to NBC News, Virginia’s relatives said, “It is with utterly broken hearts that we announce Virginia passed away last night at her farm in Western Australia. She lost her life to suicide, after being a lifelong victim of sexual abuse and sex trafficking.”
They added that “Virginia was a fierce warrior in the fight against sexual abuse and sex trafficking. She was the light that lifted so many survivors.”
“In the end, the toll of abuse was so heavy that it became unbearable for Virginia to handle its weight,” the family said.

Attorney Sigrid McCawley called Virginia “much more than a client.” She described her as a dear friend and an incredible champion for other victims whose courage pushed the legal team to fight harder. “The world has lost an amazing human being today,” McCawley said, adding a heartfelt “Rest in peace, my sweet angel.”
