Meet Weezy: London’s 15‑Minute Grocery Wizard
Picture this: you’re swamped at work or juggling kids, and all you need is a quick grocery run.
Weezy’s got your back. It’s the UK’s first on‑demand supermarket that can drop everything from fresh fruit to your favourite beer in a whopping 15 minutes.
How the Magic Starts
Weezy kicked off a pilot in Fulham and Chelsea, with a plan to open up to 15 more sites around London by the end of next year.
Its founders – Kristof Van Beveren and Alec – spotted a huge gap: people wanted rapid service at normal prices, and they delivered.
Who’s Behind It?
- Heartcore Capital – Europe’s biggest consumer‑only VC firm leads the funding.
- 20 angel investors, including Greg Marsh (onefinestay co‑founder) and Jon Rudoe (formerly at Ocado and Sainsbury’s Chop Chop).
- Tech stars from Uber Eats, Delivery Hero, and beyond – all throwing in the capital.
What It Offers
Customers download Weezy’s app, tag items on their list (think fresh veggies, bread, cleaning supplies, meds, even a cheeky bottle of wine), and hit set‑order.
The items get snatched, packed, and piped out on electric mopeds or bicycles within 15 minutes, from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.
Delivery costs a flat £2.95.
Where It Gets Its Goods
- Local independent bakers, butchers, and the bustling New Covent Garden Market supply fresh produce.
- Selected wholesalers keep the pantry fully stocked.
Why It’s a Win for Riders
Weezy champions fair working conditions. Riders receive training for the fulfilment centre and even career‑progress pathways – because this job isn’t just a gig; it’s a growing career.
Growth Status: As of Date
Weezy opened its doors in late 2019 and, even before public launches, already has hundreds of sign‑ups—doubling each week.
The pandemic turbo‑charged the online grocery market: June sales surged 100 % YoY (Barclaycard data), and the sector is forecast to grow 33 % this year (Mintel).
“When we open the first centre and people start ordering, the buses up the street at 20‑minute intervals of unstoppable demand, we know we’ve cracked the code.” – Kristof Van Beveren
Investment Echo
Yacine Ghalim, a Heartcore partner, says:
“We spotted this opportunity to reinvent convenient groceries for the digital age. Meeting Kristof and Alec felt like a perfect match of brilliant vision and execution. It’s like love at first sight, but for business.”
Heartcore’s knack for spotting fast‑growing food tech—like Taster, La Fourche—adds credibility to Weezy’s long‑term runway.
